engine number

I am refurbishing a Jubilee. It has a damaged L H crankcase side. I have a complete crankcase from another Jubby. Can I just erase the numbers off the new case and re stamp with the original number if all the rest of the engine is from the original? Will grinding off, or fill with weld then grind flat, or just X stamp the old number be best?

Any ideas please, folks???

Why erase the numbers from the replacement (presumably used) cases? You just notify DVLA of a change of engine number. Presumably you will do a full engine rebuild anyway while you have the engine apart such as replace main bearings and big end shells etc.

I suppose if you manage to obtain factory new unnumbered cases then you would have to restamp with the original number to keep the MOT tester happy.
