Electric starter wiring query

Forums

I am refitting the e/s mechanism to my Mk3. It had been removed by the previous owner, but I now have all the parts necessary to install.

My query is where do I attach the heavy-duty earth cable from the battery? The live feed to the starter is obvious, but where does the earth lead go? I assume that there is a specific point to which it should be attached (although I wouldn't be surprised if there was a better location, given Norton's other mistakes with the e/s mechanism!)

I can't find any reference to this in the usual manuals, so perhaps a Mk3 owner can help.

On my Mk3 the earth cable is fixed behind the nut on the crankcase top stud that lies directly between the starter motor and the engine number. Visible and accessible without taking anything off.

Problem is, since I beefed the cables up many years ago I cannot recall if I moved it or it still sits in an 'original' position.

Hi all

Normans correct with the earth position

I removed my starter motor years ago, but left the cable undisturbed
