Hi Tony. The frame number on my 1960 Domie 99 is on the left hand side lower frame gusset plate more or less above the rear brake pedal pivot. I also had a job finding it as the previous owner had the frame powder coated and the number was only faintly visible when you shone a light across it, it was more like indentation than a stamped number.Keep looking I'm sure you'll find it. If you get stuck I'll post a photo of where the number is on my frameJohn

I have an old Dymo label printer, runs out a black plastic strip with the numbers, stick it on the headstock and it keeps the MOT man happy !.

OK, I assume it has been removed, seen this before. However, Norton had it stamped in another place. (Too many F/beds stolen to order to make blasted TR*t*n's)

The police at the time would know where to look and so now I'll tell you: You may need a magnifying glass but you should find it, with the tank off on the top of the head steady lug off the head stock.

PS: (OFF TOPIC) Brexit majority was over 1.2 million. The number you referred to was total votes cast for Brexit.

Sorry if anyone was offended putting that here. I just remembered.

Thanks everyone, magnificent response and I found them on the frame gusset by the brake pedal as suggested and well painted over. Couldn't actually decypher the 14R stamped horizontally but got a definate frame number. I'll also know where to find the rest when I start the winter work.I did search for frame numbers on the boards but without results. Thanks again.Tony.

The problem is that when you want to re-register an old bike that has no modern Reg document you need a frame number for age-related dating. Without it you will lose the free road tax as it would be given a "new" date. The gusset plate location is often very faint after blasting and re-enamelling. I just happen to have the right sized stamps to freshen up the original marks!

Hello Tony To register your motorcycle you need proof of date of manufacture, what I have told you and everyone the Number on the Top lug is vital has proof, I have had to do the same thing with My Norton Manxman 650 has it was Registeredwrongly the Date of manufacture was the proof I needed for the DVLA the date was M/12/60. for 1961 so now I have a very early 1961 reg but Dvladid do a lotof debating over this until they got the photo, of the date stamp marks from the top lug, So your frame number On the Gusset does not prove the date of manufacture,

yours anna j
