Mine was one of the postings in the link shown above about the length of the push rod in the laid down gearbox and the anomalies of the various lengths mentioned. At the time I received not a single response to this so I used a trial and error method with 1/4" silver steel rod, hardened at the ends, and found that 7?" seemed to give the best result, although mine were not new plates. Another query I raised at the time, but again received no response to, was whether there should be a 1/4" ball between the pushrod and the mushroom stem. The parts list does not mention one although the rotational nature of the worm gear clutch actuator would suggest a need for one. This would also account for the 1/4" discrepancy between the lengths of a new 7?" rod from the NOCS and the 7?" length I found to work OK.

A more expert opinion appreciated.

I was told by somebody long ago that you should either insert a ball bearing as you have suggested or cut the pushrod in half and put a ball in the middle. I have always done so since, but couldn't tell you if it made any difference. As it seems unlikely to do any harm, then why not?

Hi all a 7.25 as bought from NOCS Plus ball bearing still not enough. The end float is still a problem.I think I'll try 7 3/4 rod and hope that someone can tell me where to put the sims in the gear box
