Hello, please could someone tell me the correct carburetter setting for a Norton Manx 30M 500cc, year 1961. I am running the bike with AVGAS (leaded, 102 octane).
I have an AMAL T5GP2 1 3/8" carburetter with following settings (air valve is removed!):throttle valve: No 5...throtttle needle: 5GP6pilot jet: 25air jet: ??? (no stamp)main jet: 310needle jet: 109
The bike is only accelerating good with this carburetter setting if you open the throttle very slowly! The height of the float chamber is correctly set!
I also have an Amal Concentric MK2 smooth bore R2036/312T and the bike is accelerating with this carburetter very nice from 3000rpm up to 7200rpm if you open the throttle fast!

Hello Roland, how are you doing? I am not sure that you will get many comments here, as I doubt there are many (ex) Manx people having a look. Most information around is for the GP1, but you should try a phone call to Barry Stickland.
You know that a Manx on a mega will not take more than half throttle from a GP until it is over 4000 rpm, a little lower if you have a silencer. My guess is that if it is starting OK and you can pull away then the pilot is nearly right, but if it is going wrong at the next throttle turn it is the slide cutaway (throttle valve). No5 seems to be very weak
I'm sure you are having fun anyway!
Regards
