Brake linings

Can anyone recommend a supplier of brake linings which have some 'bite' I have previously found modern friction materials lack the braking performance of older asbestos based friction materials

I agree, Nigel. Modern linings are either soft or hard. Whatever, they lack any feeling of initial retardation in a Norton 7" drum. I haven't found the answer and have just imported a set of NOS shoes from Canada, in the hope that they will provide a stopping distance similar to that achievable eighty years ago !

I felt the same thing when asestos free pads first appeared for disc brakes and it's only comparitively recently with the Ferodo Platinum material that standard Commando calipers perform as they used to.

I use a local company in Wolverhamptom who specialises in industrial linings. They have fitted a woven material to quite a few bikes in the past and transform braking. At £20 a pair they are also good value.

Stuart,

Tony's right - this is the second time you have referred to this 'stealth' company on these pages without telling us who they are ...........

If they are useful, I need to get them into the NOC Suppliers & Services list.

This company (Saftek) is brilliant - a range of different brake lining types, including a modern replacement for the racing AM4. they also do oversize linings, wheel skimming, and will bond and machine clutch linings to any thickness.

I seem to remember they also make and cast new brake shoes.

Recently, a set of relined 500T shoes came back by return of post.

Industrial Brakes has been inducted into the NOC Hall of Fame this evening; Saftek was already there.

Hi Chris

As recommended sent my 650SS shoes of to Industrial Brakes, they came back within a few days and Wow! what a difference, at last a front brake with some power and real servo effect. Highly recommended!
