Hello. I decided to put your Boyer ignition on my atlas. In order not to modify ATD, I ordered a Magneto drive sprocket at Norvil. But when I got the sprocket, there are only 16 teeth on it and not 18 as it is on ATD. How do you have boyer ignition on your bike solved the problem with the sprocket / ATD.

Hi Mikael, What system did…
Hi Mikael, What system did your Atlas have, a magneto or a points unit behind the engine?, I see the replacement unit LR1342 , Perhaps you have bought a Mag sprocket for a manual advance mag and the boyer unit needs a points unit sprocket? Norville should be able to advise and supply the correct sprocket ,perhaps you have bought these items seperately and got a mix up.I would send it back for a change .

Here comes a picture of the engine with the timing cover away. If I have understood correctly. Then I have a magneto that is located on the top left. What you see in the picture is ATD and the mango is behind the engine. And that's ATD that I want to replace with a sprocket. I ordered a Norvil sprocket that would fit but got one with 16 teeth and not 18 as it is on the ATD

they sent the wrong one...assuming you requested for an atlas, which is a norton heavy twin

If you have a twin points 'mushroom' housing as the later Atlas, the Boyer ignition goes straight into the mushroom.
If you have a magneto or at least have removed one and then replaced it with a 'magneto replacement mushroom' of some sort then you should be having a tapered shaft into the timing cover for a fixed (ignition advance) not automatic, sprocket. (In fact the one for manual advance magneto) If on the other hand you have a sprocket for a single cylinder 'distributor' this will be for a parallel shaft.

We have a late Atlas fitted with the Basic early Boyer into a twin points coil ignition unit ,Its always been a good starter and very reliable. The electronic advance curve is not the best for this motor and better systems are now on the market . In hindsight I would still prefer a good mag though !!. Sounds like you are trying to fit a Boyer to a Mag? not sure if that is possible.
