Once the outer cover is off you can fit a new seal without removing the shaft or spring which are attached to the inner cover. RGM and others also sell Xring seals and while your at it the gear lever seal can be replaced with an Xring but this will involve removal of gear lever shaft and spring as they are attached to the outer cover.

Hi Christopher, The oil seal may be just a bodge or it could be its escaped from the outer cover. I would fit a new seal and the best one I have found to be a Quad ring that I got from Norville. The standard O ring does not do the job. You will have to remove the cover and remove the KS spring and KS shaft to fit it.
