allen nutsX

I would use anything that works,the orriginal ones are a pain to secure ,don't seem to fit any of my keys.

Like Anna I too thought at first that there must be some confusion, but the wonder of Google reveals that Allen nuts are indeed a thing; see e.g.

From the range of images served up by Google it appears that there are types with ordinary hex sockets, as well as the more complex kind that Bernard apparently has.

No they are nuts

Further investigation on eBay suggests Allen nuts are only a thing in the U.S. -- as far as I've discovered so far, the only suppliers are in that country.

Another look at the site I linked to previously suggests that one ought to be able to use ordinary hex keys even on the fancy 12-point variety.

No they are nuts

I remember the last time I wanted to take off the housing I was defeated by these Alien !! nuts , nothing in my extensive collection of allen keys imp ,metric or star bits was up to the job. For a bike made in 1959 there are a few surprising fixings, The tiny csk allen screws that fix the Alternator housing, and the posidrive screws that secure the enclosed chaincase were seemingly a bit before their time.

From my photographic memory!!, Distributor Housing parts list page 13 plate B item 116 part no 21030. Only shown on single motor. Described as nut for stud 2 off. There, that helps a lot or not. Norville do a fixing kit for the Dissy that includes them.
