500T oiling

Forums

hi iam trying to find out if the oiling was altered on the 500T by blanking the feed to the barrel skirt so allowing more oil to the big end i have two timing side cases one 1950 one 1951 one drilled to allow oil one blanked also the oil way in the timing chest for the drilled case looks as though it has been purposely blanked any info most appreciated

thanks pete

Hi Peter

I have a couple of 1950 500t,s both have oil feeds to the bottom of the cylinder barrel , same with my 1951 es2 however my 1951 big 4 has got the feed blocked off ,having said all that if your engine is in good condition or being rebuilt i would keep the oil feed open

hi rodger thanks for the reply after a visit to my cousin who,s norton nuts after a lot of reading in one of the norton handbooks it is wrote that from 1951 they did away with oil to the barrel on the big4, 16h and the 500t so there is a slight difference in timing chest where the the counter sunk bolt lines up behind the mag chain the drill hole in the engine case is lower

regards peter
