Hi All,
a friend of mine who isnt internet savy asked me to get him a +60 piston for his 1950 ES2. I went to one of my favorite vendors & they list:
500cc: single- ES2, Model18
Is it even possible that one piston fits all years ES2? I wouldnt think so? Another favorite vendor lists the +60 piston as such:
ES2 500cc 1948-on
and another favorite vendor lists it as:
Piston for Norton ES2 1956-59
All 3 use a different part number, so I am wondering, if the same piston was used from '48 on, wouldnt that include '56-'59?
Anybody have any thoughs on this ?????

I too have been wondering…

The pre 48 piston skirt is arced at the bottom to miss the flywheel, the post 48 piston is flat on the bottom. I don't know about the 56 - 59 pistons.
Andover Norton will sell you a post 48 piston, I've had to do this and have an arc machined in the skirt for a 46 engine.

I've not heard of a different piston for 56-59, so post 48 will be the correct one.

I too have been wondering about the difference, because I see in the NOC shop, pistons advertised as pre '48 and post '48 for the 16H. I have an original Hepolite16Hpiston in my 1951 ES2 (modified skirt) that looks just like the pictures of the pre '48 Hepolite ones in the photographs.
I do know that the piston rings varied in radial diameter and thickness.
