1950 ES2 oil pump

Forums

Having stripped the timing side of my ES2 I have found that the reason the engine wouldn't turn over is the oil pump being siezed solid. I have stripped it down and the gears and body are quite badly worn. Is anybody making these as new repro items? Or does anyone know where I could get one? Mine might be salvagable but as such a vital part of the engine I would rather be safe than sorry!

Hi.

You could try 'Pushrod Performance' (Mike Pemberton) or Russell Motors otherwise it's Ebay or a 'Want' in the classifieds. Single pumps have the outlet nearest the drive cog, twins nearest the brass end plate.

Regards.

Are the body castings the same for the singles and twins? Are the gears interchangeable? If I got hold of a twin one would I be able to mix and match to make a good pump?

Hi Andy,

attached is an image grab out of pushrod singles rebuild dvd. the pump on the left is a model 50 the one on the right a commando. The drive operation from one to the other is reversed and the body looks to be mirrored as well. And just slightly larger casting for the body.

the other part of the image is the internals of single pump. staright cut gears skinny on the drive side big on the oil side.

Cannot rate Mike Pemberton high enough. I think I purchased the dvd just so i wouldn't have to bohter him quite so much with questions. He could tell you if servicebale parts in one could work in another but at a guess the internals would be smaller.

Cheers Steve
