Hi all,as a new member , i am looking for advice and where i might

find a part, a valve casting that encloses the side valves. I have found

Hi Graham, if you mean the casting that enclosed the valves, and looks a little like two bulbous tubes sitting between the cases and the cylinder head, these were not introduced until after the end of WW2.

The MOD wanted to keep bikes simple to enable field repair, so Norton were instructed to deliver bikes to them built to pre-war spec. So, even though the enclosed castings had been developed shortly before the outbreak of WW2, they were not put onto production machines until afterwards.

If you have a 1930's 16H engine then it should have exposed sidevalves, with just a simple cover held on by one central finger bolt.
