16H Gearbox

Forums

My 1928 16H has a CS Sturmey Archer gearbox. The reccomended lubrication is Speedwell Crimsangere or Wakefield Castrolease. What is the modern available equivalent?

Some use semi-fluid grease.  Various brands are available.  (Getting it inside might be the problem...a big nozzle syringe?)

The Vincent Comet has a Burman BAP gearbox. Recommended for it is semi fluid grease. Some say that you can mix half oil and half grease. But I've found that Penrite semi fluid grease will keep most of it inside the box. The grease component will seal most leaks and the oil will lubricate gears and shafts. In order to get it in, warm the bottle in boiling water. Then it's possible to pour it. I've heard that icing cake decorating tools can be used, never tried it. Though I don't know if it is the best choice for a Sturmey Archer gearbox.
