Not normal, it should fully retract.  I would be checking the cable length.  I've removed my choke slide, cable and lever etc and fitted a blanking plug to the top of the carb and just use the tickler to get it started as it never needed much choke anyway.

If i pull the cable fully up at the carb it still shows a bit i know i have it correctly assembled the brass tube fully seated in carb top wonder if there were variations on the length of this tube?

Had same problem with a Monobloc. 10 mm down. Took the easy route and did as Bob and removed it. Tickle and starts okay. No idle before it had warmed up a bit. Otherwise no problem.

.. that the tube is off a 389? I seem to remember that I had a similar problem and just trimmed the tube by 1/4" or so. I have a big box full of Amal parts so am never quite sure what originated where.

You could well be right thanks theyhave different part numbers don’t suppose anyone here knows what the length is for a 376?

thanks

Took some measurements and trimmed 5mm from brass tube after making sure the choke slide couldn’t disengage from the main slide and jam it. Don’t suppose it will make a measurable difference but good to know it’s fully up
