Folding kickstart 1957 88

Forums

Hi

First post so please be gentle

I am looking for a folding kickstart for my 57 88 dominator, I have found the following on Classic Bike Shop, NORTON DOMINATOR/ ATLAS AMC KICKSTART CRANK.

Not knowing which shops are better, has anyone fitted one of these or have experience of reasonable price bits that work. I've seen some horror prices out there.

All help appreciated please

Hi Nigel,

I fitted a NOC spares folding kickstart to my 1957 Dommie 99. It works fine but with hindsight I prefer the fixed type, although people might say it touches your calf. A quicker re-start is easier with it as you don't need to set it up when you're in a hurry, say stalled at the lights.

The orriginal fixed levers were very good quality. The  one from my 99 is doing good service on the Atlas after pattern replacement fell appart. Not bad for 60 years old.

I always fit a folding Kick start Lever if possible after an accident at a roundabout where the lever hit my calf trapping my leg.  I ended up with torn muscles and six painful weeks off work.  Fit a folding one for safety reasons is my advice.

I bought one for my restoration from the shop on this site. Reasonably priced and looks to be decent quality although not yet used in anger.

Both straight and Commando types were available at the time. Worth a look?

I bought a Commando kick start off Ebay, obviously a pattern one, and the fit of the splines was not good. I ended up not using it & resolved to always buy parts from the recognised suppliers.

Try AMC Classic Spares as I get all my kick-starters for my twins from Steve Surby. Their parts of very good quality.
