Quick release Navigator standard seat

Forums

I got a tool tray for a Navigator deluxe from Ebay, UK. (No pics, currently at  powdercoating) to be fixed under the seat.

I found it annoying to get the wrenches out to take off the seat. So I looked in my parts boxes and found two Norton Commando seat knobs which had amazingly the same thread as the bolt holding the rear mudguard an shocks.

Now I have a "quick release" seat to get my tools out. I used serrated washers under the bolt head from the inside of the mudguard to prevent the bolt from spinning when fastening the seat knobs.

I have a tool tray too, but am going to fit the terry clips as was fitted originally to the deluxe, although mine is standard.

Its a great looking and very neat solution Ulrich which looks original!   Before I order a pair are your bolts originals so I presume a BSF thread?   Nick

Well, I googled for the thread size and found this:

2 x 06-0465 STAINLESS STEEL rear top shock absorber mounting bolts for Norton Commando motorcycles. These bolts have a 3/8" UNF thread. Genuine Norton.

Thanks Ulrich, I should have thought of that!   I will see if I can track down what the original Navigator thread is.

Hello guys and gals well with my Navigator project I will have fabricate a new seat pan as there is not much left of the old one and this what I was think of doing with my seat and fittings spring and a big flat washer inside of the bolt head. All made from stainless steel then you can undo or do up your seat with knolled knob on ether side. Witch looks neet job ,   your,s Anna J
