1961 Jubilee rebuild

Forums

Just got a large box of bits, roughly assembled, but no dual seat.

Does anyone have, or know of, a seat, or pattern for me please. Any other which is adaptable / close fit.

I can weld etc if reqd, so condition is not too important.

Thanks from a newbie Nortonian.

Is it a delux or standard? But bantam John has remanufactered ones for about £120 they are not bad, but you might want to reinforce the rear mounting legs in you are carrying heavy loads! Have a read of the current navigator rebuilding threads, there's some pics there. I think leightons may do them too?

pictures of your bike, even if in bits are always appreciated!

The seat for the De Luxe is different to the seat on the Standard and has a very different rear fixing. As Dan says Bantam John and Leightons can supply new seats for the Standard and the prices were pretty good bearing in mind that they supply a complete new seat base as well as new foam and cover. The standard Jubilee has the same seat as the Navigator and probably the Electra.

If you find a source for the De Luxe seat let us all know as I definitely want one of these as well for a 1959. The original 1959 Jubilee seat again different to the later Navigator/Jubilee De Luxe seat - different rear mountings.

Welcome to the club.

Ulrich, that information is well worth knowing. I did speak to Leightons on the phone ages ago and he told me that their seat had a brand new base. He could only do the Standard seat - he cannot supply the base for the De Luxe seat.

This could explain why Leighton's price is dearer then Bantam John but i can't remember just what price he quoted me as I didn't need a Standard seat.

Mine is the deluxe -- Arrow lookalike !!!

Ok so you're going to have a bit more trouble finding a seat. I have a base that has been adapted from a deluxe to a standard but it's not an original base. It might be worth emailing Andy S he might have some pictures.

Hi Barry,

I have a 1961 De Luxe Navigator and I should be able to take some pictures of the seat tomorrow if this would be of any help in identifying the seat for you. The bike's tucked away in my other garage at the moment so a bit awkward to get out. The seat base is an original but it was recovered a long time ago by it's previous owner. This should be the same as your Jubilee - from memory there is one dzus fastener at the rear of the seat fixing on to the rear enclosure and there two pegs on the base of the seat locating into two brackets welded on to the frame suspension tops. The welded on brackets on the frame are the clue which seat fits. The earlier seat didn't have a dzus fastener and had terry clips holding the seat down - same as the De Luxe Dominator. I don't know when they changed ; probably about the time the Navigator was introduced.

I had a friend when I lived in Yorkshire who was keen on Ariels but he was a Geordie with strange tastes.
