Hi everyone,
hope we are all well,
just got a few questions re tank badges finally tracked a set down for my 650ss that need refurbishing/ rechroming anyone got any recommendations in the north west based in Manchester but will travel 2 hours ish away if they come recommended.
anyone know of anywhere good got a rare day off tomorrow. so hoping to get them dropped in somewhere. Was going to take them into Marque in Coventry but they are on holiday.
any before/ after pics?
Also should above where they say norton be flush against the tank not actually seen another domi up close with a set fitted guessing I might have to push them into shape a little as theres a gap on mine?
and finally,
does anyone have any dimensions / specs of the correct screws thread size/ length what type of head flat etc? going to try and get a set tomorrow from somewhere just stripping the paint of the tank at the moment to find the mounting holes
Many Thanks in advance,
Tom

Once these badges start to pit, it is extremely difficult to restore them. I am reasonably sure the screws are 3BA. Norvil stock them. Gordon.

What ever you do, do not try bending the badges as the originals are made from MAZAK which is a cheap monkey metal and it snaps like a carrot. I used Marque Restore in Coventry and they did a superb job as the copper plated them well, which reduceed the pock marks prior to the chroming.
The screws are 2BA and you can use any head as long as they are flush prior to gluing on the rubber knee pads.
Good Luck, Regards, Paul.

Sorry but screws are 3 BA and if the tank has had some work you may need some longer screws tahn 'stock.'

Thank you Steve,I stand corrected, they are 3BA not 2BA. I have however drilled andre-tapped a stripped thread onthe tank with 2 BA, very carefully though, as there is just enough metal on the insert to do so.

Hi
I know this is an old post but maybe one of you guys can let me know the exact distance for hole centres on the 650 ss badge?
Cheers

Just been out to the garage to dig out an old Dommie slimline tank without badges and, measuring with a steel tape between hole centres along the curve of the tank, I get:
Front - middle 222mm
Middle - rear 145 mm
Front - rear 363mm (The three holes aren't in a straight line)

'nit picking time' - the measurements wouldn't have been in millimetres, would they?
The three numbers come out to close to 8+3/4", 5+3/4" and 14+1/4".
But of course you know that there should be (filled in maybe?) threaded sockets welded into the tank at the right places - so they are whatever they are. Have you found them? (I've just had a thought - maybe a magnet plus iron filings might help?)

Well, I did think of imperial measurements, but I decided to measure the tank of my 30.3288 cubic inch Dommie in mm and see if anyone would be that nitpicking
