Anna, thanks for your input, however I didn't ask about the glass/ reflector retaining clips, which I am very familiar with, but the rim retaining clip (rim to headlight shell -at bottom of rim).Regards Richard Norton.

Am wondering if it is the same as the clip used on Lucas MU42 headlights.

For an example of this type see

It would be handy to see a photo of what you have Richard. The eBay clip is the type that I would expect to see for a domed glass but yours should be flat for '46. If you have an ex-WD shell for instance, intended for a blackout mask or a flat 'Difusa' glass then it may be that the parts are not compatible without some work.

Is the 'small projection' a slot for a screw to pass through ?

Ron, Thanks. I'm sure that my rim is the same as or very similar to the rim in your link.

It has a small projection that the clip must locate on/ over.

Not sure what happens at the headlight shell end of the clip.

Richard

Close up of head light shell showing where clip locates. Note that the aluminium with tapped hole that can be seen through the rectangular cutout in the shell is a non-standard addition (removeable)

Yours may be correct for '46. I'm afraid that I don't know how the post-war fittings differed. I'd hoped that it was the same as mine as it's a fairly simple fabrication.

I do have both parts of the clip. they turn up fairly often as NOS items at car jumbles.

You can ignore the valve lifter lever !

Thanks. Looks like my rim is the wrong type.

I take it that you don't have the clip for your headlight?

Hello Richard.

If I may, If you look, zoom âin on the bike profiles on my suggested web page it can be seen quite clearly these machines have a 2 part clip with screw between them, this seems to be an early type.

However web sites selling repro DH142 lamps show the clip type with rolled end to the rim.

The rectangular hole in your head shell is reminiscence of a hole for a captive nut, so it canât rotate, how are the actual headlight fixing arranged maybe there are similar. It would be a possible fixing for the clip end.

Hello Richard-attached are 2 photos taken of a headlamp at a autojumble, although the headlamp(original Lucas) is stamped DU42 you may need a similar clip.
