Sump drain

Forums

Hi all, first post as I only recently acquired my Mk 3 850. It has a few issues so getting to these one at a time, a couple of questions if I may?

Having been sat for a while the oil has gone to sump but next problem for me is the oil drain plug has been gummed in, seems the  PO has cross threaded when sending home, so -

1) Im guessing I can use the “larger” sump plug as a temporary drain to get her up and running (I have a manual so will check but the experiences of others always is appreciated)?

2) has anyone successfully helicoiled that sump drain in situ? If so are you aware of Dia and thread pitch?

Thanks All

Replace the large sump plug with one that has the small magnetic sump bolt in the middle of it - they are readily available from AN etc - use this to drain off the sump each time. The standard small magnetic sump bolt is 3/8 x 16tpi so you can leave it - I haven't helicoiled it in situ but have done the gearbox drain in situ which is 3/8 x 20 tpi BSF
