Hi, does anyone know where I can get a wideline fuel tank or anyone who could repair mine? There is a leak on the front left hand seam where it has at some point rubbed against the frame.

I've had small leaks in both my Triumph and ES2 tanks - Lee @ Motopaint stripped and cleaned the tank and brazed the holes up! Better than new!!

They can also be soldered. My Dad repaired my 1955 tank with solder at his firms' workshop in about 1963. I still have it; although it's extremely batteredit doesn't leak! No flames means it's generally not likely to catch fire or explode using a soldering iron!

They can also be soldered. My Dad repaired my 1955 tank with solder at his firms' workshop in about 1963. I still have it; although it's extremely batteredit doesn't leak! No flames means it's generally not likely to catch fire or explode using a soldering iron!

Yes Lionel you can get then soldered but you cannot get them chromed afterwards ,As the acid in the chroming bath eats the solder. and this is the same with braising the tank. TIG welding is the only way to do a good repair job,

If you are reluctant to get the expensive welding done plus the paint hassle, take a look at the Caswell Europe website. I have done two tanks, one a very leaky 1921 flat-tank, and this stuff really works, unlike the older types.it is ethanol-proof and stops future corrosion.

This shouldn't happen with a decent chromers. Plating can be carried out on any conductive metal and the acid shouldn't be strong or long enough to destroy solder. I my experience tanks rot through at the bottom, like my old one, so chroming isn't a problem on that repair. As I said, my Dad's solder repair is still fine after 50 years so TIG is OTT as fare as I'm concerned. When I do my replica chrome on the old tank panels I'll be filling the pitting with solder, flash-plating with nickel then copper - polishing it and filling with more solder if necessary then replica chrome as a finish.
