Luggage

Hi All

I'm curious as to what luggage, hard or soft, 961 owners use. At present a good rucksack looks like the only option!

Thoughts?

Am currently looking at a Givi Wingrack2 with universal fitting kit - saw this fitted to a 961 in Belgium recently. Can then use any soft luggage or an excellent choice of the Givi monokey cases which are pretty sturdy. I have a Givi tanklock tank bag - you need the BF02 tankring, which is actually for a Triumph - this was also fitted to the Belgian bike - Alan

I got the ring from mad4bikes via their Ebay site.

Do a search on givi BF02 if the above doesn't work. I got the bag from J&S Accessories who have branches all over the place - I am sure that they will have the ring also - I was in last week asking about the Wingrack & monokey luggage & the assistant phoned up their central stores - they seem to be able to get any of the Givi range at a few day notice plus they have a good Givi display in most branches - Alan

OK

I've now got the tanklock ring as well as the 15 litre Givi tankbag to go with it. I'm impressed I must say and I can't wait to see what it's like to use.

Coincidentally the ring fits my Triumph Sprints too so I'll be able to use it on these as well. Once I manage it I'll post a photo up.laugh

I've now got a wingrack2 and universal fitting kit with 6 brackets - just need to figure out a couple of brackets to go under the seat area - the other 4 brackets will use top suspension bolt and exhaust hanger bolt.

Stick some photos up when you've got it sorted Alan.

Hello Alan

I also have the wingrack on mine , it's only mounted on the top suspension bolt and the exhaustnut no lateral fixation . It has done the INR in France this year like this and nothing moved

All credit to you on this one Richard, plus the tanklock fitting & bag, as I looked at your bike & talked to you about them at last year's Begonia - hope to see you again in 2014.

Hi. Would it be possible please to show a photo of how you have fixed the pannier frame?

Thanks

Hi Richard,

I live in France and am having some hassle finding suitable luggage for my SE. The tank bag solution now seems to be sorted with the BF02 ring and bag.

Please can you provide some data on what you fitted to the rear of yours. I shall be out and about this year and really want to ditch the rucksack......

Hi all,

I thought you all may be interested in the six mounting holes I've found under the pillion seat of my SF. According to Sean Kynnersley of Norton, they can be used to mount luggage on. I'm back to the factory next week for a first service so I'll enquire more about if they intend producing luggage options for the future as they obviously thought about it at design. In the mean time I wondered if any of you know of any universal kits or otherwise that could make use of these holes. I have considered making a frame that could extend rear wards, thereby giving enough room still for a pillion seat. From there it wouldn't take much to extend to the side for a set of side panniers. Any thoughts from the great collective?

Kind regards,

Paul

Hi All

Attached is a photo of the 961 in full touring mode. New slightly deeper seat made also for the comfort of a pillion also a USB plug-in fitted on the handle bars for the iPhone/sat nav. I have used the Givi Wingrack connected to a bracket made from 3mm steel which connects to the six holes under the pillion seat. This is however work in progress. The bracket is to be modified some more but it should do very nicely for the Norton Festival. Hope to see some of you down there.cool

Paul: Bike looks good. Can you post a photo of the bike with the rack on, but with the bags removed?

Thanks

Hi Mike,

As I have said, this is work in progress so after the Norton Festival I plan some modifications. However, if this helps in the mean time. The whole rack is supported on the two blue nylon blocks, which keeps it away from the paint and also spreads the load evenly. Then six M10 bolts hold the rack on. I have also made some extra brackets which fit under the rear mudguard but they're not shown on the photos yet. These extra brackets connect to the lower part of the wingrack and make it more rigid. Then the monokey system is a piece of cake to use. I have used 21lt side panniers, quite small by todays standards, and a 46lt top box.

Hi,

I have fitted the tanklock ring and i am using a 15 litre bag.

Did you have to use any spacer gaskets to make sure the bag clips into place properly, mine is not very secure on the bike.

Thanks for any info
