1933 International.

Could someone please confirm if a 1933 International should have a Dolls head gearbox or a Sturmy. I thought the Dolls head didn't come out until 1935. Seems a lot of pictures I've seen of 1933 models have a Dollshead. Many thanks.

"A Norton manufactured clutch was used from 1934 onwards, and the Norton/Burman gearbox from the following year. "

 

Its whats written but...   I do remember someone saying  "its gona be great!" also.

The Doll's Head was fitted across the range from the 1935 model year (production from late August 1934 onwards). The brochure states "..identical to that used so successfully on our racing machines."

There doesn't seem to have been any suggestion that 'ordinary' Internationals would have been fitted with one before this time.

All gearboxes are numbered though so it should be straightforward to check if it was originally fitted. The huge number of WD Norton boxes available after the war and lack of parts for the earlier type has means that many were upgraded (witness the number of pre-war Inters featuring the wartime WD brass indicator plate).

Thank you Richard. Exactly what I thought. It seems more are now fitted with the Dollshead than what they had before. For those years before '35 I mean.

Thanks for that Jonathan. The reason I asked, although it was more for conformation than anything else , is many more appear to have the Dollshead than the original gearbox fitted. Just thought it was strange that this was the case.
