500t lower front mudguard stay.

Forums

Hi all, i am doing some fettling on my 500t and have decided to replace the badly homemade front mudguard stay. I have tried to look at some photos online but it is more difficult that it sounds to try and establish which is the correct type. I know the 500t had some different fittings, but did that run to the stay as well, anyone know? Parkwood make three different types, all similar. 16H, model 18 and inter. Im thinking the model 18 would be nearest as the 16h would have girders. Can anybody advise, steer me in the right direction. Thanks, Colin.

Hi Colin,

it’s different to all others I’m afraid. (21” wheel.) I have posted a photo of the correct one below. Lots of other things wrong with the bike (pre restoration) but it is the correct stay.

The front mounting flats are inverted to keep it as narrow as possible and the rear loop is plated to act as a stand, with a slotted lug for the retaining bolt.

Hope this helps.

regards,

Alan

Thank you Alan. I didnt even think about the 21" wheel. Looks like i shall be making one after all.

Is there any chance of a closer shot of the stay where it goes around the back of the guard, and is it 1/2" or 9/16" diameter tube. Many thanks, Colin.

Hi Colin,

sorry I haven't managed to post a photo yet. I tried to get one this weekend but the place I keep it was all locked up. I'll try and get one this week.

If you do go down the route of having one made I would be interested in getting a second one.

best wishes

Alan

Hello Alan, thanks for getting back. I am going down the lines of trying to buy a repro and modify it. The n.o.c spares is out of stock due to the supplier not being able to get 9/16" steel tube. Though i purchased two one metre lengths from ebay no probs so who knows. Its the very tight rads that are the problem. Trying to get the bends without the right gear is very difficult as it will just flatten, even with cerobend in the tube. May have to wait till the autojumbles start again. I did email PARKWOOD but have had no reply. They make 3 different norton front stays. No phone number ? so i cant ring them. Im not sure who he is, but i have seen a couple of different guys at kempton, one of which is usually with Andy Tiernan. I may give him a ring. Cheers for now, Colin.
