Fitting of Isolastic gaiters

Hi Keith,

I`m going to be fitting some to my MK3 commando soon as part of my rebuild, my thoughts are Red rubber grease or Silicone grease which shouldn`t affect the rubber. This should aid the fitting.

The gaiters for the isolastics are perhaps the best way of keeping any rainwater and road-dirt inside the machanism.  The isolastics are available from certain suppliers with stainless steel fittings.  If don't intend to ride the machine in wet weather they don't really serve a useful purpose; they obscure necessary adjustments and hide any corrosion.  

Alan Sessions has been helping me with my MKIII; he turned them inside out, then just held the outer edge & rolled them on!

Not really a "proper" fix I know, but confronted with the old gaiters perished and a need to change them out quickly, I carefully slit one side of a new gaiter open such that I could just fit the resultant C shape on around the adjustment, once the gap setting was all finished, and then very carefully Superglued the cut faces back together again. Worked a treat. That was a temporary fix I did about 12 years ago... I would challenge anybody to spot the difference - and it has survived numerous further vernier adjustments since..
