Modern Nortons

Having picked up my SE (in Black) yesterday from the factory I took the oportunity of buying the "proper" workshop manual and can reccomend any 961 Owners to do likewise.

I am a proud owner of Commando 961 since 11. 2012. With only 1700 miles on the clock the engine is suffering with high oil consumption.(oil used: MOTUL 3000 20w50, API SG, meeting JASO T 903).

Well in 2010 when our branch did the tour of the Norton workshops at donington park there at the back was a prototype domiracer on the bench .at the time no one took any notice of it .

Hi, Bike been on trickle charge for last few months, came to use today but wouldn't start/turn overwhen start switch was pressed, even though everything else seems fine.

I find it important to share with you my very unpleasant experience with a 2010 Norton Commando 961 Cafe Racer.

As you may know, these models are protoypes that should not have been sold to customers.

Having read the very informative article on the 961 Commando engine in Roadholder, I find that the crankshaft assembly is pressed and welded together with the big end and central main bearing in place.

Here is a picture of my two Norton Commando's 850 and 961, as you can see they do have a lot in common. They have done a good job in keeping the looks very similar.
