Hoping to find help regarding my plunger frame 1950 ES2 centerstand spring. I've just received a new spring from my good friend & Norton buddy in the UK, part no. A2/527. Measuring center to center on the attachment holes is 6 inches. I cannot find a suitable place to anchor the spring to the frame. It is obvious where it attaches to the centerstand but I have no idea where the other end belongs. I've looked at all the manuals and photos thatI can find with no luck.
Any help & advice would be appreciated. If possible you can reply directly to my email, jerrykap@pacbell.net

Thanks Adam,
It looks as though the only stud that will line up with a 6 inch spring is one of the lower gearbox studs (mine is a laydown gearbox) that is the furthest forward of the 3 special acorn nuts that holds on theinner gear boxcover. Frankly this doesn't look like it can work either as it will foul the gearbox case when it's up and will be way too long when the centerstand is down. I wonder if I have the correct length spring? If it will help I can post some photos.

Hello Jerry,
I've attached a picture of the stand spring location, as already mentioned the nut attached to the gearboxlower support bolt is of a special shape and has a machined groove to accept the spring, hope this helps.

Hi Jerry.
You can get the nut (in stainless) from Stu Rogers 01945 585116. Although he specilizes in Manx and Inters, it's worth getting his catalogue asthese models shared many of their fixings with the ES2 and 16H.
Cheers.
Ian.

Thanks Karl, Adam & Ian,
With your photos and words I can now see what exactly I need to get this right (part number A2/313, gear box bottom bolt nut) and a stout spring aproximarely 5 inches center to center. The one I recently received is an inch too long. Thanks again for helping me get this sorted.

Hi Jerry, there should be a 'button' on the lower gearbox mounting stud nut i.e. that nut is specially designed to attach the spring to. If it isn't apparent, you probably hann't got the right nut on your bike.
