Now the plunger suspension question has been answered for me, my next problem is a crankcase repair. The engine in my Inter has a 1939 magnesium alloy crankcase. Unfortunately sometime in its history before my ownership the mag platform was broken off. The solution had been a bit of a bodge with a steel platform bolted to the engine plates. If possible I should like to have the case repaired back to original condition. Anyone know a suitable welder for this difficult to weld metal?

Any competent aluminium welder should be able to do it. I haven't used them but friends have used Projex Engineering on Marsh Barton, they say they can do mag welding.

Thanks Dan. I have e-mailed them.

Howbizzar,Ihave exactly the sameproblem on my 37 "Manx Spec" Interwith exactly thesamerepair. (Angle to the rear engineplate). Mine wasactuallycold stitchwelded as well but itsnot good. I'm still running it to deal with otherissues butsoon asI'm happy itwill go for repair.
Whilst I agree anygoodallyweldershould beableto do it, I wouldfeel more comfortable having a"Norton" mandoit. To that end I have hadStu Rogers work onmy previousmachines both with cracked platforms; hiswelder did a superbjob, and appreciated the consequences of failure. Stu is in Wisbech, Cambs. Tel: 01945585116 Just analternative should you need to compare.
Cheers
