Transfers and lacquer

Forums

I recently applied a set of water type Norton transfers tomy petrol tank then, after several weeks, I applied a coat of clear lacquer asrecommended. The problem is that the acrylic lacquer reacted with one (justone!) of the transfers and turned this into a crinkly mess. The transfers wereboth fine before lacquering and they had had several weeks to dry out thoroughlybeforehand. Does anyone have experience of this problem? Did I use thewrong type of lacquer?

Thanks for any help

Hi Gordon

I recently restored a 1948 Model 18 and bought new transfers for everywhere from Classic Transfers.

The instructions were very clear - dont use Acrylic or Cellulose laquers to seal the transfers, only two pack laquer.

I used this and it worked with no problems.

Thanks for this Nigel. The instructions with my transfers simply said to apply laquer (no spewcific type) after drying. I'll try the two pack next time. Do you happen to know a supplier?

Gordon
