Throttle sensor

Hi all. My 961 Sport Mk11arrived yesterday and I love it.

The dealer, Thor Motorcycles, whom gave a fantastic service, helpful friendly and whom came across as being genuine in every way, advised that I need not wait until the first service to de cat as he will run the bike then fit my chosen exhaust system and re map the engine. Which was great.

Naturally I need to 'run the engine in' as guided by the book which is going to take a while unless the Siberian weather breaks. However I covered 120 miles this morning and Tomorrow looks dry so might be half way towards my first service by Monday.

Norton do notseem to have listened to some of thegripes for instance the side stand stillrequires some teasing to flick out unless your wearing winkle pickers rather than bike boots.So one of my first jobs will be to elongate the tiny stand locator. The throttle sensor I recall from way back had a habit of being a touch confused, mine, although assured it will sort itself out in time, is very agitated at low revs. Ticks over fine and revs through the gears smoothly but initial pull away or trying to filter at low speed takes a good bit of clutch control I found it best to keep the revs above 2000rpm. Apart from that the bike is beautiful and an absolute joy to ride. As for the current discussion on weight it is a sack of potatoes lighter than my MK111 Commando.

I have had other bikes where the Throttle Position Sensor was mounted

with 2 slotted holes, and adjustable.

This was on an early MV 1000 and a 2000 Kaw ZX 12.

Both were very lean off idle and up to 1/4 throttle.

The "fix" was to scribe a line and advance the unit 1 mm in relation to the throttle.

The 961 has round holes, so I removed unit on the left side, punched out the brass

inserts. Milled the holes with 1/4 inch end mill 1 mm in the direction I wanted.

Seems to have helped.

Haven't been able to find re-flash available in my area ( Calif, USA ) yet.
