sv cam followers and big4 girder info please

Forums

alex here in brisbane australia.

I would like some help with my norton ES2 project.Loosely 39 Based.

firstly... the sv motor 1935? has been converted to late 40"s OHV and uses the sv cam followers of pre 37 that have the hole in the top surface for the pushrod to sit and the bottom radiused surface runs on the cam. It is exhaust gear driven motor. The followers i require are the shorter type being 2 inches from centre of pushrod to centre of pivot shaft.I have a longer set that are about 4.5mm different.I dont know if there ever was 2 different lengths of this type of follower or the OHV conversion resulted in this and custom followers were made for this motor that the previous owner kept. Anyway i require a set of the 2 inch centres.

second ...I have a plunger frame and Big4 girder front end.162mm inside fork... I would like a drawing of the big4 front axle with spacers and dimensions and axle nuts to suit as they are larger than the 16H nuts. any UK suppliers of an axle and nuts .. as i cant seem to locate any in Aust.

A drawing or pic showing the location of the locking nuts, which side of the hub? Using a later ES2 roadholder hub with LHS 7 inch brake plate.

If i use a larger diameter axle as in the later tele forks to suit the bearings and Brake plate with appropriate spacers what is the point of the older locking nuts and the sleeve space between the wheel bearings.Wouldnt the bearings running on the axle be a better way than on a bush and then the axle ?

I realise i am using parts from different models but that is what i can find at the time of the build.

any help will be greatly appreciated.

regards alex

Hello Alex, firstly consider this...if the front wheel comes out of the forks while you are riding you are not going to have happy landings.Your forks are 160 wide, the teles are 120 wide, quite a difference.Your forks make space for a wheel with a separate brakedrum. You will have to design your own axle, and spacers, and nuts and be satisfied that it will be safe. The followers you may be able to buy from Russel Motors,if you require the standard sv type, otherwise try one of the specialists listed on this website, who may custom make them for you.Regards John.
