Hi, i am thinking of using a repro Speedo on my es2 to replace my chronometric one because the new bezel i fitted wont stay tight i have loctited it but it still comes loose the old one was cross threaded the thread was damaged so i put it down to that. do you think a repro 0 to 80 mph one would do the job .

Thanks, Baz

The bike is capable (in theory) of 82 - ish, so 80 might be a bit lean. From memory I think the original went up to 120 but I could be wrong. G

Hello George, i was just thinking of the speed i normally travel around at. nothing near that sort of speed. then again thinking back i read somewhere that it has to have a Speedo capable to match its maximum speed or above so you may be right. Baz

Hi Barry. The Repro Indian ones are cheap enough...here is a UK postal addressed one...note it has the 30MPH line but many have a 40MPH line which is less authentic. UNFORTUNATELY as far as I know, these speedos all require a different speedo cable as the fitting is different to the original Smiths size. You can get cables to fit however..The one shown includes a cable but I guess the length is to fit a front wheel drive box. You could contact the seller and see if he has a longer cable.....Les

PS...if you buy one, make sure you complain if the rim is dented...many are for some reason...Also the rims are not brass coloured as the photo seems to show....they are chrome-like.

PS 120MPH versions are also available at the same price...Hopefully the internal mechanics have been changed to suit or the legal 10% tolerance is likely to be more than way off....Surprised....but for 15 quid (if you buy from India) it will fill the big hole in your headlamp at least......Les

Hello Les. thanks for the link. yeah that looks the part. i just want to preserve the old Speedo until i can have it overhauled at some stage .it fell apart and dropped down one day. i think i would sooner fit one of those for now stopping the old one getting damaged. i will check the rim is ok and sort the cable length to suit. thanks Baz

Please check around ....you might find it cheaper.....don't know....didn't spend much time....Good Luck........(still laughing at that reply you did about the web site)....Les

Hi Baz - sorry for the delay. I missed your post.I meant that you yourself may hold your speed down but a later owner may knock the berries out of it so a full range speedo would be more appropriate. Hope this helps. George
