Slimline tank mounting rubbers at rear of tank

Forums

At the rear of the petrol tank there are two metal loops that fit over two pointed protrusions on the frame cross member. I have been told that there are supposed to be some rubber items that fit over the protrusions such that when the tank is installed, the rear of the tank is kept from moving around. Anyone have a part number for these items? I cannot locate them in the parts list. Or if a part number is not available, does anone have a suitable substitute?

Thanks

Dear Mike,

You may have to make one up using an "O" ring kit. Ideally the rubber diameter, as opposed to the O ring diameter, should be about 0.25". The O ring diameter is about 4" and fits around the two protrusions and over the back of a lug at the rear of the tank. You may have to have a bit of trial and error to arrive at the correctO ring diameter. You will need some half section rubber, taped to the topback of the horizontal rails upon which the tank sits as well. Personally I have some lengths of pipe insulating material over the rails at the front end too so as to minimise vibration.

Go to a vacuum cleaner repairer and ask for a drive belt for a HooverJunior cleaner.

Sorry that I haven't gotten back to this but my computer ran out of smoke and I have to use one at my local library.

Ron and Peter:

I am not talking about the large O-ring that fits over the turned up lip at the rear of the tank.

On the underside of my slimline tank at the rear are two welded on brackets. When you slide the tank into position the brackets fit over two pointed protrusions that are pointing backwards fron the rear frame crossmember. Like I said I have been told that there should be some rubber inserts with a hole in them that the pointed protrusions fit into. This will locate the tank from moving side to side as well help the large o-ring in holding the tank down.

Anyone have any info as to whether the rubber pieces are supposed to be there and what their part number should be.

I can post some photos if needed.

Thanks

Mike

Oh-oh... a great big mea culpa here.

I was changing the clutch cable today and realized that the rubber washers I was told were missing were not for the tank, but rather for the nose of the seat.

They are not illustrated in the parts list but I believe that I have narrowed them down to pn 21851, bushing seat nose.

Sorry if I caused any consternation.
