She lives again,

After three years of sitting in my garage I had a couple of days to see if I could get the old girl running, she's not a restoration, I'm just trying to put together a cheap buy on eBay into (a box of bits) into a usable classic. I bought 2 new barrels from the club and them bored to fit, new Pistons, converted it to 12 volts fitted new loom and electronic ignition, new stanchions bushes and seals for the forks. Cleaned the tank out with Diet Coke, and the oil tank with something stronger .... Millstone remover. Fitted external oil filter and clear pipes so I could see if everything was working. The carb was off a C15 and knackered so I bought a new concentric. My cheap bike isn't so cheap any more!I finally got to try and start it this week but could get no spark, I checked and re checked but no joy, so I rang Al Osborne who gave me a few further things to check, this resulted in a new coil which I fitted this afternoon, I tickled the carb gave it about 1/2 choke and damn me if it didn't start first kick ..... Result! I doubt it's been running for 30 years or so. I don't have any silencers yet so it sounded rather throaty with just the headers, it's a remarkably noisy bike for a 250! Not sure whether to go for some dunstall replicas, i have experience of those before and am just not sure how much silencing they actually do!Still a whole list of jobs to do before the mot, but it's good to hear that the engine runs with no nasty clunks or rattles so far.
