Seat covering

Forums

Good afternoon all

Has anyone got a sample ( a bit of an old seat ) of the 1960 ish grey check cloth used for the seat tops at that time, that they could sendme,I am trying to get my 1961 Navi de luxe seat covered as authentically as possible.Leightons do not have any.

Alternatively if anyone knows of a source of this pattern please let me know.

Regards

Stan

I bought a Leighton's Wideline seat a few years ago and it was amazingly spot-on compared to my original 1959 one. Even the red piping was correctly made in vinyl (?) fabric/textile as opposed to the shiny PVC type of other aftermarket versions. The seat cover pattern was exact too. However, my Navigator's new seat (fitted before I bought the bike) has a plain light-grey top and not the chequered type so I assume that it's no longer available. I'm not too worried about the Navi as it isn't concours and I won't be going down that route.

Cheers, Lionel

Perhaps there is not enough demand to make it viable for Leightons to get in new stock. With the Magic of the Internet another source may turn up,

Some years ago I was enquiring about guitar amp vinyl covering for a 1960s amp. I was told that the rollers for the pattern were still available & usable but I would need to order 1000 yards to make it viable! I'm guessing thatLeighton's black wideline seats use the original rollers. Motto: NEVER throw anything away!
