Still learning,I am wondering if by looking at the roadholder forks I can tell if they are short or long. I have a 1954 Norton Big four. From what I read they should be short. I need to order new stanchions, and I would like to order them before I take the fork apart. I had it apart last spring but do not remember the length. Yes I should have made note of the info but this is called learning!!!
Yes to become old and wise you must first be young and stupid!!!,,guess I'm still not old at "67"

Hi, You can normally tell…
Hi,
You can normally tell by the sliders.
Short -1 Lug for the brake stop on the brake slider.Mudguard lug and studs are below the widening section of the slider where it's still straight.Top of the slider is smooth and internally threaded for seal holder etc.Long -2 lugs for brake stops, 1 low as per the short and 1 higher up for Inter/Manx style brake plates, this is often un drilled.Mudguard lugs and studs are on the widening section of the slider, before it goes flat again.Top of the slider is stepped where it is machined to take external shrouds. There are some differences, eg inter and manx sliders but the above rules will follow most of the time as the inter/manx sladers re much rarer so you're less likely to have them. Manx and inter sliders will often have fewer mudguard stays at the bottom (either 1 or none) and will have the second brake lug as per longs for the brake plates.URL'sShort - http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g207/sweetpetedalton/P1020554.jpgLong - http://s14.postimg.org/r8do0flbl/Forks.jpg
