RGM folding kickstart

Forums

Has anyone out there any experience of using one of these?

  • â Is it strong enough to put up with repeated use?
  • â Does it fold away properly?
  • â Does it 'unfold' sufficently to clear the silencer?

Any other comments before I buy one?

Thanks

Well here goes as no one else appears to have one !

I have fitted one to my 850mk3 which has Hyde rear sets. As some may know the Hyde idea of how to fit the standard kickstart is not satisfactory at all, so i looked for a solution.

I can only say that I received exemplary service from RGM, in that Roger supplied it on a fit or return basis, and I am glad to say it fitted just fine. It is a very well made and robust version of the Trident kick-start and having had it on there for a year (without electric start) I have total confidence in it.

Bearing in mind my rear sets, the open swing is adequate to clear my footrest components and silencer and folds much neater than the standard one.

All I can say is give Roger a call and try one ...........

Mick Hemmings is also selling a special folding kickstart. I believe he calls it "motocross kickstarter".You also can send it back to him if it does not fit your bike.

I bought one year before last, however I returned it to RGM no questions asked. You could buy one so as you can try it for yourself without worrying about returning it.

I run rearsets and the original 750 kickstart was obviously not designed with these in mind, I thought the folding one would tuck away nicely but it still has to stick out greatly from the bike to clear the exhaust and to my mind was just folded in at the bottom instead of the top like the norton item, so still being in the way if not quite as much, but the cost outweighed any gains.

I ended up buying the 850 mk3 kickstart, instead of curving out right from the bottom boss, it sort of angles out more gradually so theres a lot more room for your foot, this along with a jpn gear lever and I've never been in a tangle since.

Thanks Paul - you have confirmed what I thought might be the case with rearsets although it clearly works with Hans Taylor's rearsets (see above).

I think it is going to be a case of trying it out once everything is in its final position and see if it achieves anything. Meanwhile, I' ll give Mick a call to follow up on Roland's information. I know he made one for his Commando and swore that it took so long he would never contemplate doing it again!

I want a folding kickstart on my WD 16H to enable me to get it through a door and stop me barking my shins whilst pushing. Any idea which kickstart might do ?? I favour the type which folds at the base if this is practical. Thanks

Not yet - I'm as you are, still putting it back together. Once it's going again I'll take a trip up there and see if it fits. I really could do with something that tucks away out of the line of the rearsets, so I hope it works.
