Removing advance/retard cable

Forums
Sorry guys - another daft question. How on earth do I remove the advance/retard cable from the contact breaker body? It's a Lucas face cam type breaker where the plate is moved by the cable/nipple. I've tried screwing it in then screwing it out but cannot for the life of me see how I can get the big nipple out. I'm sure when I'm told I'll go "Doh!" but at the moment I'm stuck. Thanks for any help. George

Hi George, I guess this is on your damaged magdyno? If so this is how I would remove the cable: At the mag end of the cable screw the cable adjuster fully in to maximise the slack in the cable. Remove the advance/retard lever from the handlebar control and disconnect the cable at that end. Unscrew the cable & spring assembly from the magneto. Push the advance/retard plunger upwards with finger or screwdriver. The nipple should now be clear of the mag casing and it should slide out sideways.

Hope this helps

Thank you Ian. I'm so grateful. I was really at my wits end with it. It is the damaged (broken) magdyno which has had the top part of the timing side casing broken off. I'll have a crack at it tomorrow.Thank you. George
