Yes, it is ex Northampton Police delivered in 1983, Then owned by Frank Westworth then sold onto John Blades it seems. The bike has been clocked at least twice form the records we hold. Despite looking pretty, it's just an old Interpol that saw some high mileage, with the uncertainty of the engine build and being moly'd the price is way to high. We have about 7 years of warranty and service work reports for the bike.

Thanks for the info, do you think that the bike will  need a moly treatment and or new cases ? ( if available ?)  About much would a full engine service cost?

Hi James,

Are you thinking of buying a rotary?

In the day a "service" would hardly involve more than plugs, filters, brake pads and fluids check and change. No engine oil to change. For many lucky rotary owners, like myself, an annual service has sufficed for many years of active rotoring. These bikes are best kept active.

The total engine removal, strip, inspection, renew as necessary, rebuild, throws you into uncertain territory, especially as new part replacements may be unavailable. You are correct in thinking rotor cases,  add rotors and eccentric shafts. No one will give you a fixed price for this.

Startright in Leeds, or Andover Norton offer support for rotaries, and I suggest you contact them privately. They are well placed to steer you to a bike that will bring a smile.

A recently used bike with provenance might be better than a showroom bike last used ??? years ago and parked for forgotten reasons.

Bit different from Commando with many supporting workshops and 100% new parts availability. Second hand engines and parts on every auction site.

Happy rotoring

Peter

James,

New cases are not an issue, and engine build would be dependant on what is found to be wrong. The hard part would getting the bike at a sensible price, way lower than the Mecum valuation and also getting someone to do the engine work in the USA.

Thanks again, I contacted mecums about the mentioned article ,  they said it would available a few weeks before the auction. It did start supposedly.
