Plunger spring covers

Forums

I now have a new set of black and chrome covers from RGM. I note the hole in the black covers are all the same, but the chrome covers have two with big holes and two with small. I assume the big hole one is for the top, longer spring. Does the small hole one go at the bottom as they seem to be interchangeable?

According to the parts list, Andrew, they are definitely not interchangeable. The two outer covers are top outer B4/675 and the lower outer is B4/678 whilst the two inner covers are B4/676 top and B4/679 lower. There is a previous thread on spring sizes but I think your take on it makes sense.CheersGeorge

Thanks George. Another question: is the sequence of covers from top to bottom: black, chrome, black chrome? I have looked at numerous photo's, but in all it is impossible to be sure about those on the bottom spring.

Long springs and therefore long covers go on the top. These are the springs that do all the work. The short ones are rebound springs and go on the bottom.

Black, chrome, black, chrome is right.

Grease them WELL.

Many thanks - I have just refitted the left side springs and covers. Just the central pin to clean, grease and refit, Then the right side.
