Oil tank breather summation, 76, mkIII interstate renovation

Forums

From my research, it appears that the vent pipe from the oil tank is best fed into a small bottle, and not the air cleaner (just from a cleanliness perspective), and that the tube to the carbs is not required and can be replaced by a single tube between the carbs.

Could anyone clarify this?

Thanks

Greg

I keep my oil tank vent connected to the air filter black box so the oil keeps the foam filter moist, excessive oil on the oil filter only a problem if you follow the marks on the filler cap, only ever top up to the L. The paper filter may be different if you have gone ham can.

And make sure you don't top up the tank before you've run the engine for a few minutes to clear the crankcases.

On my 1974 Mk 1 828 I took the breather direct from the oil tank to the back of the bike. There was never even a hint of oil leaving it.

Just visible on this pic.
