OHC rocker Side washers and spacers

Forums

Can someone please advise the order of assembly of the rockers, with washers and spacers?

The manuals (such as they are) don't make it clear.

In mine at present: starting at one side: there is the cambox casting.  Inside the circular rocker recesses are cork disc washers.  I believe these are supposed to keep a degree of bounce-back even when squeezed.

Then comes a flat steel hardened washer.  Later bike had (I believe) these with raised edge (shallow cup).

Then the rocker.  So  when the rocker moves, it slides against the steel washer.  Nothing prevents oil going between the disc and the side of the rocker, apart from the squeeze by the cork.  Some oil is needed through here to lubricate the roller bearings inside the rocker.

Then steel washer again, cork washer, and the other side of the cambox.

Is this correct, please?

If so: has anyone replaced the steel washers with Teflon?  Maybe they would be too thin to be safe?

My guess is that the later design with cup washers was intended to reduce flow past the side flat washers.

I replaced corks and top and bottom rubber wipers last year.  The bottom ones are adjustable and this evening I found each could easily accept another half turn on the adjuster screws.  So they seem to wear away in next to no time.  Again I wonder if Teflon might be better.

Any remarks would be welcome.

You're exactly correct as to how the bits all fit together. Doesn't work all that well to keep the oil inside but what do you expect for '30s technology?

Thanks to all. Seems like it's gone back correctly.  Now to test.  It's beginning to look like it's going to be a regular task.
