Navigator rear wheel chrome ring

Forums

i have a 1962 delux navigator in bits and am sorting out the back wheel, i have the original that came with the bike and over the last couple of years have picked up a few spares, i do not have a parts list but do have a norton twins factorybook that shows a jubilee back wheel drawing, having looked on this site at the bikes and the book i would like to know if the rear wheel had the chrome ring on ,my original does not but i picked up one from a jumble that may be francis barnet etc that does have the ring, the bike pics in the models section look like they have on one of the pictures does anyone know if a 1962 left the factory with this embelishment ring fitted? thanks in anticipation..

Hello there,

That's a good question for the concours people if there are any.

I used to have a Jubilee which was registered sometime in 1963 (can't remember exact date) and this definitely had the chrome embellisher rim. i think the chrome bit came in for 1963 and earlier machines did not have it. So your original wheel without the chrome rim is probably right for a 1962 but surely the answer is to use what you prefer.

thank you for the reply, i think i will fit it as i have it and its good chrome, it will not be a concours rebiuld [i do my own paint etc] and it may end up with stainless spokes etc so will not be original, i just did not ant to fit it if nortons never had them on but as you say if you had one on a 1963 jubilee with one i may as well put it on, thanks again arthur.
