Hello - I've got my Navigator engine on the bench and have put the gear box in but when going through the gears, I sometimes find a neutral between 3rd and 4th. Is this normal or do you think I have put gear box together wrongly?

Hi David,
Not sure if it is the same gearbox internals as in the Electra (I think it depends on the year), does your gearbox have a drum with the grooves in that theselectorforks run in or a curved plate that moves the forks ?
If the former then if you look at the the grooves you will probably find the tip of one of the grooves is worn, difficult to reallydescribe but if you imagine the groove should follow a V shape at one point but the tip of the V is worn and it is more like a U, the selector fork needs to sit right on the peak of the V to be fully in 3rd gear. If it is not fully in then the wear on the dogs (there will be wear) will pop it out of gear.
You may have the same situation with the earlier box.
