Lucas badge in MCH61 shell

Forums

Can anyone advise how to remove the Lucas Badge in the MCH61 headlight shell? Would like to remove to repaint the shell, but can't see how it comes out (without breaking!).

Thanks!

I would leave it in and carefully mask around it. My headlight was pretty much destroyed in a nasty wreck and I made an attempt to get the badge out to put it in a better shell. The surround seems to be very thin aluminum and really doesn't want to come out.

I left mine in when I stripped my headlamp shell with Nitromors - big mistake! Hadn't realised it was plastic, it just dissolved.

Hi.

The badge is crimped in using a specialaluminium surround - pretty much impossible to remove without destroying it although you might be able to save the badge. Norvils do the badge but I've yet to find anyone that does the ally bit. I cut out a ring of ally from the innertear-off lid from a can of baby milk (it was about the right thickness) and peened it into place in the headlamp shelland then glued the badge in. The result is pretty muchindistinguishable but not as strong as the proper fitting.

Ian.

Hmmm. I think I will leave it in! Will try and work around it.

Is the entire medallion back to be painted gold, or just the lion?

Thanks!

Nick, had exactly the same problem...eventually bit the bullet and manage to remove badge. Worked from OUTSIDE headlamp carefully prising up the alloy edge until I could push it through. Painted underside with silver paint. Refitted and used a piece of wooden dowel to roll the alloy edge back into shape. Got a good tight fit. You need a very close inspection to see its been refitted.

Patience and care are the passwords with this. Good luck if you attempt it.

Don't forget - NEVER use cellulose paint on anything made of plastic. It must be acrylic or water solvent.
