Bought sliding discs and felt seal for 1952 es2, looking at later gearboxs laydown type did notice spigot extension on sleeve gear for felt seal to go on.On mine there is no spigot, no room for discs really and hole in discs still to big,I'm thinking should there be anything at all, just the oval hole in rear chaincase .In the parts book just a felt seal between gearbox sprocket and clutch, as slines on mainshaft nearly go up to sleeve gear end? Mine just has the big hole...
... and very little oil comes out. I do run it with just enough for the bottom run of the chain to dip into however. I did play with the idea of making a little gutter to fit over the hole on the inside but there wasn't enough clearance behind the clutch.

Gearbox laydown
Thanks for your replys, tried the discs I have they are really for later Norton's twins. What I will do like you say leave as is.No real room for discs as rub on clutch, The oval hole is large obvious to to adjust chain tension. But like you say little oil in case just to dip chain, and oil thrown outwards

I think I’m right in saying there were about 4 different length sleeve gears. My sleeve gear extended far enough to allow the felt seal and later sliding discs to be fitted but I had to cut the back of the chaincase to allow them to slide. Prior to that the cases didn’t have any seals, so if you can’t get them to fit I wouldn’t worry about it, I don’t think much oil gets to the back.
