Jubilee brake lever

Forums

Hello i have a very worn rear brake lever pivot pin on my jubilee frame, as it is a welded part of the frame has anyone had any experience of replacing such a thing.

Thank you Kelvin.

Probably not what you want to read, but the best way to do this would be to fabricate a replacement for the pin, grind the offending one off, and weld the replacement in place. Sorry if this is not what you wanted, but you can take comfort in the fact that the original must have lasted at least 46 years, so you probably will only have to do this once.

Hi Kelvin,

Just had a look at my brake lever shaft to see how you could repair one as Colin says if it is in a really bad condition then welding on a replacement would be the way to go.I would use a bolt with a shank the same size as the shaft, cut the head off level with the shank, clamp it to the original(with a jubilee clip to get it level)tack it to the frame then cut the original off.this sets it back but should not be a problem then finish welding.cut the bolt to size you can use the thread for two slim lock nuts or cut it with room for a split pin and washer. If its not too bad? try sleeving it and bore the brake lever to fit.All repairs or mods depend on what equipment you have at your disposal I tend to fabricate and weld as I do not have a decent drill.

Cheers Dave.

Hello thank you for the great ideas, i may be in luck as the brake lever is available new, so it should be unworn, i have to wait and see from the noc shop if the frame section that is available is nos or if its a used one, if i can get both pats new i will save myself alot of messing around, i will drill the new lever for a grease nipple, should be good enough for the next 100 years.

Cheers Kelvin.

Hello, i have sorted my brake lever issue now, i had a good bit of luck buying the last nos left hand frame section from the noc bit of a bargain at £15, with a new brake lever fitted ther is no play, just a smooth brake lever, i will treat it to a grease nipple.

Cheers Kelvin.
