John Player Commando

Forums

Hi there - Steve based in Angus, Scotland - first post. I have just bought a JP Commando, happy enough with the history and the guy I bought it from that it is genuine, has the right fairing brackets, footrests, extended tank etc - but is there a record of the engine/frame numbers that were converted anywhere just so I can be 100%?

The factory records do not give the model, the later records get the worse they are, the JPN clues are the headstock should be missing the holes for the normal data plate, instead the data plate should be relocated back to the main tube under the seat. Police interpols with fairings were the same, this allowed inspection of the bikes identity without having to remove the fairing. A conversion would not normally have this change included.

Thanks John, I thought as much - could not find anything about this on the internet. Yes the plate is under the seat. It has sat in a lock up since 1981! So there will be a wee bit of work to do to get it going again. Steve

Thanks John, my bike ties in with all the pictures so I guess I can be 99% as well.

I bought it from a guy who sold me a Mk2A back in 1988! I had been trying to find that bike again so I looked him up, and it turned out he still had this JPN.

Still looking for my old Commando PRG 482M - but this will keep me busy for a few months. Steve
