Norton Silver can be replicated by using: 1974 VW Beetle silver, or Vauxhall star silver mist, or Vauxhall silver starfire metallic,or for a "greeny" patina, then use Vauxhall Platinum starfire metallic Rover silver leaf, MME421 is also a good match.

   If you want an authentic paint finish you should try to avoid anything with a metal flake effect as this type of metallic finish was never used on garden-gate Nortons. George had his own agenda and turned out some impressive bikes, but not always to original specifications. I have a 1939 oil tank still in it's original paint and I will try Ford Silver Fox to start with as this has been advised by many over the last 40 years.

Dear NOC Members, I am in the middle of the restoring of a Norton CS1 Walter Moore 1928. I am writing to have recommendations and instructions for the colors and the pattern (shape/size) of the tank fuel and oil fuel. As for the colors, do you know the exact color codes of the silver and the red? Something that I can find on the Mac Meyer or Lechler scale? Also, for the pattern - do you happen to know if some sort of painting masks are available? At the moment we are looking at pictures but is hard to understand exactly the dimensions of the lines and they seem to vary a bit. Thank you and regards Bruno

Lines would be hand brush painted. So they would vary according to who did them and what he had for lunch.

Water slide transfers (decals) with the Norton name from pre WW2 seem to be hard to come by (from Classic Transfers or VMCC).  Apparently they sell too slowly and their shelf life is limited, so they say the price would be too high (whatever that means to a desperate owner).  Vinyl stick-on ones are perhaps the only option (although specialists will make them to your graphic).

Do you have the late George Cohen's "Flat Tank Nortons"? Lots of pictures.  Also the Vintagenorton Web site had period brochures you can download.

The silver tank colour was just 'silver'.  Like traditional aluminium paint. They didn't have myriads of subtly different tones in the 20's.  Unless someone knows differently?
